This course is offered in partnership with American Electric Power. It is designed to prepare the student to enter the profession as a Class D Power Lineworker.


The Power Line program incorporates the D100, D200, and D300 Series AEP curriculum with practical experience. The Power Line program will train students on a number of skills used in the career field and provide industry-recognized credentials. Through a balance of classroom and lab time, the Power Line program prepares the student to enter the profession as a Class D Power Line Worker. Additional training in employability, OSHA safety, and various core skills enhance the student's ability to enter the career field. Students participating in the program will also receive CDL Class A truck driver training provided through Southern State Community College.

Students participating in the program will receive Class A truck driver training plus instruction in:

  • Pole climbing,

  • Pole setting,

  • Operation of a Bucket Truck,

  • Digger Derrick,

  • Stringing primary and secondary wire,

  • Service drops,

  • Hanging cross arms,

  • Performing hurt man rescue,

  • Basic electricity,

  • Employability and job search assistance.  

Certifications available:

  • NCCER

  • OSHA 10

  • Class A CDL

  • Class D Power Lineman
